I’m trying to hook up my dish to my Vizio e series smart tv. Dish has a coaxial cable & there’s no port for it on the tv, so I bought a converter box. The converter box menu has me stuck—I can’t figure out how to get my dish up & running. I’ve scanned channels & nothing happens. Help!

Your Dish, I assume you are referring to Dish Network.

The satellite dish coax cable connects to the dish receiver and your HDMI cable connects from the dish receiver to the TV.

U make it sound like anybody can just tap onto the satellite and get free TV. Why isn't the provider, the people you subscribed the service to, provided you the converter box?

I guess calling dish tv is my next step. I was hoping for an easy solution of buying a converter instead of spending hours on a phone getting customer support.

Well assuming the provider allows you to buy your own box, they may have specific models requirement, and they should have an online DIY turn on procedure. It maybe slightly different for each provider, there is no universal plug&play. People who wants your money don't want to make it too easy.
